Standard 6: Assessment
The teacher understands and uses multiple methods of assessment to engage learners in their own growth, to monitor learner progress, and to guide the teacher's and learner's decision making.

Indicator 6B: The teacher designs assessments that match learning objectives with assessment methods and minimizes sources of bias that can distort assessment results.
These pictures are examples of a unit's learning objectives and its assessment that I created. The method used on the assessment (pictured on the right) are problem-solving questions. Using problem-solving questions, especially in math, help teachers see the misconceptions students may have as students show their thinking. This helps minimize bias in finding the answers and reduces distortion of assessment results. This helps the assessment be reliable and helps the teacher to know exactly where to go from there based on the results.
Indicator 6E: The teacher engages learners in multiple ways of demonstrating knowledge and skill as part of the assessment process.
This is an example of an assessment I created and gave to a student and then completed an analysis on that assessment. On this assessment, problem-solving questions were used so that students were able to show their thought process. This gave the student an opportunity to demonstrate her knowledge and skill in many different ways. This allows me to reflect on that assessment to look for misconceptions or to decide where to go from there.
Indicator 6L: The teacher knows how to analyze assessment data to understand patterns and gaps in learning, to guide planning and instruction, and to provide meaningful feedback to all learners.
This picture is of data that I collected after students completed a Geometry quiz in my special education classroom. Each tally mark represents how many students missed a question on the quiz related to the subtopics labeled. This helped me to see the pattern in student's learning and what concepts they were still struggling on. This helped me to plan future instruction based off their knowledge and gaps in learning. This also gave me the opportunity to give each student the help and feedback they need based off of their individual needs.
Indicator 6Q: The teacher is committed to engaging learners actively in assessment processes and to developing each learner's capacity to review and communicate about their own progress and learning.
This is a photo in my Special Education classroom that shows student's work files that they enter all of their graded work and assignments. I am constantly putting student work in these file throughout the week. This helps students be actively involved in the assessment process as they review their work and are able to see their progress made throughout the year. This also holds students accountable for their work as I work with their parents and with other administration to monitor their progress and communicate their needs to each individual. This also helps me to assess each individual and to collect data for their specific needs.
